This painting is a portrayal of of a real conversation that took place on the dating app, Hinge. In this work, I express my difficulties with with pursuing romantic relationships following sexual assault and the risks that come with sharing my experiences online. It's ironic that even the depiction of sexual assault can become sexualized.

'Unforgivable'
Oil on canvas (4ftx8ft)
Unforgivable is a depiction of the negative consequences of being so open about my experiences online and placing myself in a vulnerable position. After I posted 'Someone's Mother, Daughter, Sister, and Friend' on Instagram, I received a call from my rapist who wished to apologize and admit to what he had done.

'1812 Frobisher Way'
Oil and acrylic on canvas (36"x48")
After rediscovering the pair of underwear I was assaulted in, I was driven to make a painting inspired by the memory of my childhood home that I no longer live in, as well as the memory of the assault which has tarnished this location in my mind. I piped on the architectural drawing of the house from memory in acrylic paint and painted the figures on top in oil.

'Practicing'
Acrylic on 6 sheets of unstretched canvas (26"x32" each)
This work is a meditative practice using a word that has unfortunately lost its meaning to me. By writing it over and over again, I am trying to normalize its use in my vocabulary.
